Depression is a feeling of sadness, discouragement, and hopelessness that can lead to a loss of meaning in life. The Bible describes depression as a result of Satan’s efforts to ruin a Christian relationship with God.

John 3:14-17 explains God’s love for the world and how he sent Jesus to save us. God has shown his love for us that while we were still sinners he sent his son into the world to save and not condemn. Those who do not believe in Jesus will be judged or condemned. The passage encourages us to live holy lives and to love each other.

Isaiah 61:1-4, describes the work of messiah, who is sent to heal the damage of sin and bring good news to the oppressed. The Messiah is sent to heal the broken hearted, proclaim liberty to the captives and comfort those who mourn. The new lives that the Messiah’s salvation will bring spirit, task, a new place in the world and a new future.

Have trust in God and faith is prayer..
Prayer is one of the spiritual disciplines that lead to intimacy with God. It is a powerful tool for defeating depression.

Doubting faith in God is acknowledged as a normal human experience, but it is often portrayed as a barrier to receiving God’s blessings, with the most prominent example being the story of Thomas who doubted Jesus’ resurrection until he physically saw him.

The Bible encourages seeking faith through studying scripture and actively choosing to trust in God despite doubts, with James 1:6 stating that “a double-minded man is unstable in all his ways” highlighting the negative effects of wavering faith.

Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him”. God keeps all his promises and protects those who trust in him. The idea of God being a shield is rooted in the Bible’s historical and cultural context, where cities of refuge offered safety to those in danger.

Matthew 7:7-12, describes God as a generous Father eager to give good gifts to His praying children. Jesus commands His followers to continually ask and seek, with confidence that they will receive and find. Christ summarizes the intent of God’s commands in the Old Testament: doing for others what we want done for us.

The Bible encourages actively seeking faith through studying scripture and praying, believing that God is faithful even when we doubt.

Impatient is a lack of trust in God’s timing and guidance and a form of unbelief. It can lead to rash decisions and actions that go against God’s will.

In Psalm 40:1-5, we see David’s experience of waiting patiently for God’s deliverance. David sings praises to God for answering his prayers and delivering him from distress.

Waiting strengthens our faith and teaches us to trust God in our unfolding future for without faith it is impossible to please God.

James 5:7-11, instructs us to be patient and endure hardship, comparing it to a farmer waiting for the harvest, emphasizing that the Lord’s coming is near and they should not complain or grumble against one another, as the Judge is at the door; it’s a call to remain steadfast in faith despite difficult circumstances, drawing strength from the example of the prophets who suffered patiently.

Waiting on God’s timing can build patience, trust and reliance on Him. God may delay fulfilling our requests to prepare us for what we’ve requested.

Insecurity is a lack of confidence or trust in oneself, often resulting from not fully relying on God’s love, but rather on one’s own strength or external validation.

Deuteronomy 31:1-8 signifies Moses nearing the end of his life, giving a final speech to the Israelites, reassuring them that even though he won’t be crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land. God will still be with them and lead them through Joshua, urging them to be strong and courageous as they face the challenges ahead, trusting in God’s presence and faithfulness.

John 3:13-18 explains that only Jesus, who came from heaven, has ascended to heaven, and that God sent His Son into the world not to condemn it but to save the world through belief in Jesus, emphasizing that those who believe in him will have eternal life, while those who do not will face eternal separation from God. It highlights God’s love for humanity and the path to salvation through Jesus.

You do not need to fear someone who loves you perfectly. God’s perfect love can remove all fear. It’s not our love for Him, but His perfect love for us that drives out our fears (1 John 4:18). God loves you with an ideal love. He sees all your weaknesses, flaws, and struggles and still loves you completely.
