Vengeance is the act of harming someone in response to an injury or offence. It can also mean punishing someone for a justified reason. The Bible teaches that vengeance is God’s right and that he will eventually repay. God forbids revenge and teaches people to love their neighbours.
According to Matthew 5:38 42 do not retaliate with evil, but instead respond with love. You should forgive others and refrain from holding grudges. You should conform to the spirit of the law, not just the letter. Be accommodating and merciful, especially toward sinners.
Romans 12:17-21 tells us not to repay evil with evil, but to instead overcome evil with good. You should always live in peace with everyone to the extent possible. We should let vengeance be the Lord’s, and not take vengeance into our own hands. Set yourself aside to love and serve God, others, and even enemies.
We must have our minds renewed, to look at the world through God’s eyes, to begin to understand what He wants rather than focusing on what we wish to (Romans 12:2).
