Vengeance is the act of harming someone in response to an injury or offense. It can also mean to punish someone for a justified reason. The Bible teaches that vengeance is God’s right and that he will eventually repay. God forbids revenge and that people should love their neighbors.

What does Jesus teach us in Matthew 5: 38-42?
Jesus teaches us not to retaliate with evil, but instead respond with love. You should forgive others and not hold grudges. You should conform to the spirit of law, not just the letter. Be accommodating and merciful, especially toward sinners.

In Romans 12:17-21, Paul instructs us not to repay evil with evil, but to instead overcome evil with good. You should always live in peace with everyone to the extent possible. We should let vengeance be the Lord’s, and not take vengeance into our own hands. Set yourself aside to love and serve God, others, and even enemies.

We must have our minds renewed, to look at the world through God’s eyes, to begin to understand what he wants instead of focusing on what we want ( Romans 12:2)
