Mark 7: 31-37 describes Jesus healing a deaf-mute man near the region of Tyre and Sidon. The story highlights Jesus’s power to restore physical and spiritual well-being, even though the people initially asked him to heal the man. Despite his initial charge to keep the miracle a secret, the crowd was amazed that they couldn’t help but proclaim the amazing things Jesus has done.
The healing of the deaf mute man is a metaphor for the restoration of wholeness and the ability to hear and speak God’s truth. Jesus actions of touching the man’s ears and tongue symbolize the power of God to heal and restore just physical ailments, but also spiritual understanding and communication with God.
With just the touch of his hand, Jesus cures a man of hid deafness and speech impediment and gives him a whole new life. The story reminds us of how much of an impact Christ can have on our lives. We may not even realize the tiny blessings that he sends us each day or the little miracles the he works in our lives.
We should be open to hear God’s word and speak freely about the good news of his love and forgiveness.
